The all-through (3-19) Oasis Academy Shirley Park incorporates Ashburton Community School together with Ashburton Junior and Infant School and the Children’s Centre. The Academy opened in September 2009.
The Academy's specialism is in English and Performing Arts. These specialisms, which have been fully discussed with the Local Authority, complement the emerging pattern of specialisms offered across Croydon’s other local secondary schools. Indeed, both specialisms build on the design strengths of the Community School building (which is equipped with a high-quality concert hall and houses the Croydon Music Service, as well as the local community library), whilst also addressing the importance of English language, reading and literacy.
Both specialisms are embedded in the life of the whole Academy – Primary and Secondary. Therefore, as well as being taught as subjects in their own right they are also used as a means of interpreting and delivering all aspects of the curriculum, increasing the coherence of each student’s overall learning experience and enhancing their life experience.
In common with all Oasis Academies, Oasis Academy Shirley Park also enjoy a focus on Business and Enterprise. This is designed to encourage a ‘can do’ environment and attitude both within the school and in each of our students.
