Curriculum

Primary Phase

At Oasis Academy Shirley Park we teach an exciting and creative curriculum that takes account of the latest research on how our learners think and learn. Our aim is to encourage our learners to achieve their very best and to ensure they develop their skills and talents in all aspects of intellectual, social and physical development.

Key Stage 2

Foundation Subjects
Design Technology, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music and Physical Education.

Additional Subjects
Religious Education, Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship (PSHE&C), Modern Foreign
Languages (Years 3 and 6).

The Foundation Stage curriculum is divided into six areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development; communication, language and literacy; problem solving, reasoning and numeracy; knowledge and understanding of the world; creative development; and physical development.

Seconday Phase

Key stage 3, Foundation Phase
Students no longer sit National tests at the end of Year 9.  This allows us to be more flexible and creative with the curriculum, thus further stimulating their interests in learning.  The curriculum continues to be broad and balanced with a clear focus on the development of skills and talents.  Students have a voice in mapping their routes through their curriculum which include beginning their GCSE courses in Year 9.  Some parts of the curriculum in Year 9 are based on the Royal Society of Arts competency curriculum.

Key Stage 4, 13-16 phase
A full complement of GCSEs is supplemented with Specialist Diplomas and BTEC courses.  All Oasis Academies offer a broad and balanced curriculum but they also have a specialism.  As an English and Performing Arts with Business and Enterprise specialist Academy, all students participate in a variety of enterprise-focused subjects.  Opportunities will also emerge from our on-site Business, Enterprise and Vocational Learning Centre to develop courses related to these areas.  Some students begin GCSEs and others level 2 courses in Year 9; others may take three years to complete Key Stage 4.

Sixth Form
The Sixth Form will open from September 2011.  We will be offering a wide range of A-level courses

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
