
16 year old Hollie Duke has scooped a Special Recognition Award at the inaugural Oasis Community Learning Annual Awards, held in Birmingham on the 11th May.
Hollie, from Oasis Academy Shirley Park, is a remarkable and selfless student who is always looking for ways to improve the lives of others. Hollie works with younger students at the Academy to deliver the ‘Beat Bullying’ programme as well as with Primary pupils to help with their transition to Secondary school. She has also spent many hours searching for support for a charity close to her heart, ‘The Jimmy Mizens Trust’ and has also organised the ‘Shoe Box appeal’ for overseas families in need.
Hollie has suffered bullying herself in the past, which made her lose confidence. But she has overcome this in order to help others.
Glen Denham, Principal of Oasis Academy Shirley Park, said, “Hollie works tirelessly for a variety of causes both inside and out of the Academy. Despite this she still has time to complete her studies and always gives 100% effort. She is kind, understanding and respected in our community. Hollie fully deserves this award.”
Oasis Community Learning Regional Director of Education, John Murphy, said, “Hollie encapsulates the recently launched Oasis Community Learning Charter in which we state, amongst other things, that we are inclusive, we are community, we are relationships, we are learning, we are achievement, we are hope and we are future. The future for Hollie is bright. Well done!”
