This is a borough-wide induction day for your child t ovisit the the Academy with all of the other students attending Oasis Academy and will enable your child to:

  • get to know the school building;
  • meet key staff;
  • get to know students from other schools;
  • get a taster of Academy life and what lessons will be like;
  • ask any questions you may have.

Summer term 2012 - Year 7 Welcome Evening
This event, which will take place during the summer term, will provide an opportunity for you to:

  • meet your House Leader, Progress Leader and Pastoral Leader - these are key staff who you will get to know very well during your time at the Academy;
  • find out which Progress group and House you will be placed into;
  • collect uniform, if you haven't already done so from the Academy reception; and
  • meet senior staff and ask them any questions you may have.

Your First Day

Term starts for new Year 7 students usually a day or two before Years 8-11.  We feel it is important for new students to find their way round and acclimatise to their new surroundings.  Usually, you are dismissed early on your first day, just after lunchtime.  Also, during the first half term, Year 7 students are dismissed from lesson 4 ten minutes before the older students, so that they are able to get to the canteen and be served first.

Other Information

Academy Day

We operate five lessons per day, of varying time, with two breaks and form/assembly time.  This allows for academic and practical subjects to be covered within a relevant timeframe to allow for the most impactful and enhanced learning experience.  See the 'Academy Life' page on this website for exact timings of the day (Term Dates and Timing).

Enrichment

There are a number of lunchtime and after-school clubs in operation for all types of activities, ranging from sports to creative clubs.  See the Enrichment page under 'Academy Life' for more information.  An updated club list will be uploaded in September and may vary from the one already published.

House System

We operate four Houses at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, all based on birds of prey:

  • Eagle;
  • Falcon;
  • Hawk; and
  • Kestrel.

Whilst you will be placed into groups for your different lessons, you will also be placed into a group within one of the above Houses.  You will have the opportunity to participate in competitions and events based on the number of points each House gets, and there are reward events and trips at the end of each half term for winning classes.  But remember, you can receive de-merits, as well as merits, so it is important to work hard and show good behaviour at all times!

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
