We have a very strong programme of careers education and guidance which will be delivered through the Sixth Form Personal Tutors and the AimHigher Team. In addition, we have a dedicated Connexions Adviser who will regularly consult and advise students on higher education and career choices.
Students will visit University Open Days and UCAS Fairs and we will arrange mentoring for those who wish to take Oxbridge entrance exams. Through our extensive business and industry connections students will be able to undertake work experience placements in an area related to their career interests.
There will be opportunities for joint ventures with our sister Academy Oasis Academy Coulsdon for example: Young Enterprise, Performing Arts Productions, trips to Universities, etc
Involvement in voluntary work is widely recognised by universities, employers and greatly enhances curriculum vitas. Students throughout the Academy are encouraged to become involved in Community projects and in the Sixth Form we will organise a Volunteer Convention when companies and charities seeking volunteers provide information on schemes available for students. Such as:
Become a volunteer for Whitgift SNAP, Special Need Activity Project, which caters for young people of Croydon with learning and/or physical disabilities and provides a two week summer activity project based at Whitgift School, South Croydon
Become a volunteer and help manage and maintain one of the local commons owned by the City of London, eg West Wickham & Coulsdon Common or Spring Park
There are many opportunities for Sixth Form students to become involved in the wider Oasis Community and support International projects throughout the world. Some students may want to consider taking a ‘gap’ year before joining University or starting work and with our extended family links the Academy is ideally placed to help you find the right project with which to become involved.
