We are currently looking for one parent/carer representative to join the Academy Council. Please see the documents in the related downloads box (bottom right of this page) for more infomation and for a nomination form. Closing date is Monday 18th January 2010.
The Academy Council is made up of representatives from the Local Authority, Oasis Community Learning, parents/carers and staff, alongside other representatives from the local community or local businesses appointed for their skills, abilities and local knowledge. It also includes, at least in its initial stages, members of the existing governing bodies.
Moving to an all-through Academy of course means, in time, developing a single governing body as well as one overarching management structure for all 2 phases of the Academy (Primary and Secondary).
In order to work towards bringing both elements of the all-through together, the Secretary of State has agreed that the management and governance structures can remain in place for the Primary School, under the authority of Oasis, for an initial period. This gives us the freedom to move towards the full integration of the Academy under a phased timetable. Therefore, having established the Academy Council (from September 09) which replaces the governing body of the predecessor Community School, the governing bodies of both the Infant and Junior elements continue to operate, as part of Oasis, for a transitionary period. They will also be represented on the overall Academy Council in order to work together to explore and establish the details of an appropriate process and timetable for full integration.
The Children’s Centre continues to be managed by the Primary School.
