Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner (EWP)
Hello, my name is Salima. I’m a School Counsellor from ‘Off The Record’ – a local charity and counselling service that has been supporting young people in South London for the past 30 years. I work at Oasis Academy Shirley Park Middle School every Friday to support pupils by providing one-to-one counselling sessions to help them explore their thoughts and feelings. We can work together during sessions in a way that feels comfortable and helpful for each individual pupil. That might be through talking, play, art, or even playing games together. I really look forward to getting know the staff, pupils, and the community of Oasis Academy Shirley Park Middle School.
To take care of my mental health and wellbeing, I try to make sure that I don’t overwork & give myself time to relax through mindfulness meditation or by having a good giggle from watching a comedy TV show! I always try to remind children & young people that I have worked with to have a good balance between working hard & making time to relax – sometimes I forget to do this myself too! I’m wondering what you might do or say to yourself to practice self-kindness?
Hello, my name is Katie and I am a Child Wellbeing Practitioner from Off the Record- a charity that has been supporting young people for 30 years in Croydon. I will be at Oasis Shirley Park every Friday morning to support young people and their families with worries or behavioural difficulties. For one-to-one sessions, I work directly with parents as they are the experts in their young people. I also run group sessions with young people and psychoeducational workshops for staff, parents, and young people.
My self-care includes spending time with my family, friends, and my dog, as well as making time for my hobbies such as crocheting and taking care of my house plants.
Reaching Higher
We believe that all young people should be given the tools and opportunities to thrive, flourish and achieve their lifelong potential. We work with the students as well as the school to help achieve this. Our mentors are based at the Middle School and work with a select few students who it has been identified would most benefit from the support we can provide.
Our role includes:-
a) Managing and working with referred young people to build their emotional wellbeing, resilience, and confidence.
b) To develop a tailored support system for these young people, based on their specific needs.
c) To devise a clear plan of progress for each young person, inclusive of an exit plan, in collaboration with appropriate school staff
d) To support in developing the overall pastoral approach with a specific focus on community and home influences.
e) To provide additional pastoral support
f) To assist students in fulfilling their academic potential
