Appeals

Appeal Dates and Information

If you have not been offered a place at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, the law entitles you to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel.  This panel is completely independent of the Academy and the Local Authority.  Until further notice, these appeals are held online using Zoom Video conferencing or you can opt to join the hearing by telephone.

The closing date for appeals is 20 school days after the refusal letter.

If you wish to appeal you need to use the online form.  Please do NOT use ANY other appeal form. We would  suggest that you download or read online the 36 page explanatory booklet about appeals before you complete the appeal form.  Once your form is submitted online, you should receive a confirmation e mail within 5 minutes.  If you do not, please e mail clerk@educationappeals.com

You MUST give the grounds for your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form.  Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you state the grounds for your appeal. Any evidence or supporting material can be uploaded, but the online form will only accept, word, PDF and JPEG documents. You may appeal for more than one school.

 The ‘in year’ timetable for appeals is as follows: -

·         Appeals are heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged. 

·         You will normally be given 10 school days notice of the hearing, but parents have the option to waive this right. 

·         The school’s prejudice to education case is normally sent about a week before the hearing.

·         Five copies of any additional information must be posted to the Clerk at least 5 school days before the hearing.

          Usually parents/carers receive the panel’s decision letter 5 school days after the hearing.

Please do NOT use ANY other appeal form or send your form to your local authority. It is suggested you read the Appeals Booklet before you complete the appeal form.  

  Reception and Year 7 Appeals for September 2020

Last day for lodging appeal forms for a place in Reception or Year 7 to start in September 2020

Year 7 - Thursday 30 April 2020 (by 4 pm)
Reception - Tuesday 19 May 2020 (by 4pm)

To guarantee your appeal will be heard in the first tranche of appeals. Appeals lodged later may not be heard until the second tranche which could be in September 2020. 

You MUST state the reasons for your appeal and supply any documentary evidence or supporting material at this stage. You may appeal for more than one school. Appeal forms and other information may be emailed to clerk@educationappeals.com (preferred method) or posted to Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel, PO Box 367, Cuffley, Herts, EN6 4XZ.

The stage 1 part of the hearing (with other parents present) will take place at the Academy

At least 10 school days before the stage 1 hearing

Last day for any additional  or supporting evidence

Friday 26 June 2020.  You are advised that additional paperwork received on the day of the appeal hearing will not be taken into account. Please provide the Clerk with FIVE copies of any additional evidence. All such evidence to be submitted in A4 format and NOT bound, but may be stapled on the top left hand corner.  Paperwork submitted with your appeal form does not need to include five copies.

Due to the high number of appeals held at this time, this may not be sent until up to two weeks after the last hearing for the Academy.
  Mid-Term Appeal Applications

Last day for lodging appeal forms following a refusal for a place mid-term

Twenty school days upon receipt of your letter of refusal. You MUST state the reasons for your appeal and supply documentary evidence at this stage.  Appeal forms and other information may be emailed or posted to Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel, PO Box 367, Cuffley, Herts, EN6 4XZ. 

Appeals are held within 30 school days of the receipt of the appeal form.

  Sixth Form Appeals

Last day for lodging appeals for a place in the Sixth Form 

Tuesday 27th August 2020 (4 pm) to guarantee your appeal will be heard within the first weeks of September.

You MUST state the reasons for your appeal and supply any documentary evidence at this stage.  Appeal forms and other information may be emailed to clerk@educationappeals.com (preferred method) or posted to Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel, PO Box 367, Cuffley, Herts, EN6 4XZ.  Please note the timetable is very short to enable those appellants who win appeals to start as early into the school year as possible.

Appeal date

The date will be during the month of September 2020.

Late Appeals

Where an appeal is submitted after the deadline, the appeal may be heard at a later date.
