Enrichment and Horizons Equizzes

We have a fun and varied programme of extra-curricular activities for students including sports clubs, musical, drama and dance sessions, and other clubs such as chess, film and media and gardening.

Clubs change from term to term and, whilst we are pleased to be able to provide these opportunities on a day-to-day basis, enrichment at Oasis Academy Shirley Park is about much more than simply our after school clubs. We want to enrich students’ lives and open their eyes and minds to new experiences, to help them to gain new skills, develop talents and seek out new interests and hobbies. We do this by providing a diverse range of activities, trips, and guest speakers. In Year 7, students are able to attend a number of trips, including the Science Museum and the annual PGL/Bushcraft activity holiday, where they learn new skills such as climbing and kayaking. We also run university trips, a sports tour and History and Geography field trips to name but a few.

Students participate in a variety of workshops, including Barclays Money Skills and BT Life Skills, and they train to be online mentors for the charity Beatbullying. We have welcomed illustrious guest speakers to the Academy, including Dame Clara Furse (London Stock Exchange), Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Natalie Bennett (at the time, the leader of the Green Party) and Matthew Winthrop Barzun (at the time, US Ambassador to the UK), as well as a number of guests who have shared significant life experiences.

The team share a passion to offer opportunities beyond our wide, broad, and balanced curriculum, and there are a variety of lunch/after-school clubs that seek to support, engage, and develop our young people as well as several external trips and our Shirley Park Activities Week which happens in the summer term.
