We are happy to announce that our Primary phase has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit for the 2023/24 academic year! This incredible achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our school’s Eco-Committee, which included one representative from each class.
This year, our Eco-Schools focus was on Energy, Waste, and Global Citizenship:
- Global Citizenship: Each year group engaged with global goals, aiming to help all students understand their role as global citizens.
- Energy: Our students learned the importance of reducing energy usage both at school and at home, making energy-saving a daily habit.
- Waste: We increased awareness of the waste generated by individuals, classrooms, and families, aiming to significantly reduce it.
We also held Bag2School collections, raised funds for our Eco-Committee, upgraded our outdoor spaces with flowers and decorations, and successfully planted 15 young saplings, gifted by the National Trust, around the school grounds. Thanks to these efforts, we significantly reduced our paper, electricity, gas, and food waste.
Our school’s Eco-Code is now embedded into daily routines, making sustainability a core part of life at Oasis Academy Shirley Park Primary.
This Green Flag Award is a testament to the lasting impact of our efforts and the commitment of our students and staff to creating a more eco-conscious future!
