Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Student Life

Sixth form students play a vital role in academy life. Sixth form students run literacy, numeracy and behaviour mentoring programmes with the lower school. They also take a lead role in charity fundraising within their communities. We also have a team of elected sixth form prefects, who co-ordinate student voice events, sixth form and lower school events and much more.

Pastoral Support

We provide a strong programme of pastoral support to ensure student are well supported throughout their time at Shirley Park and beyond. Students are taught important life skills through their weekly ‘Empower Me’ tutorials, covering a range of contextualised topics.

All sixth formers are part of a tutor group and will meet with their tutors regularly, as well as having a dedicated Head of Year and Wellbeing officer.

We operate an open door policy at Oasis Shirley Park Sixth Form, and encourage our students to come forward with any concerns, no matter how small.

Sixth Form Spaces

We have two dedicated sixth form spaces, The Study Centre and The Learning Curve. We also have specialised sixth form classrooms.

·         A quiet collaborative working space including a small private kitchen facility and student lockers

·         A silent study space, which is open daily after school until at least 5 pm, where students can work independently supported by the sixth form team. This                  area features a full IT suite, desk space and shelving facility to store folders and books.

·         Our A-level Art students are all provided with their own individual studio space.

·         Our students have access to whole academy facilities including the canteen, providing hot meals, and indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

·         Sixth form students are permitted to leave the site at lunch times to make use of local facilities.

·         All students are provided with an iPad for the duration of their sixth form studies.

Independent Study

Independent study is a large part of sixth form. We recognise that this jump in independence can be daunting. That is why, during Autumn 1 and 2 and Spring 1, students are taught how to effectively complete independent study, during weekly tutorials.

Subject leads have provided both reading lists, and independent study guides for our sixth formers.
